An FBA is the process of determining why a student engages in behaviors that impede learning and how the student’s behavior relates to the environment.
We break it down for you in our Functional Behavioral Assessment Fact Sheet
A BIP is created after a Functional Behavioral Assessment is conducted.
It includes a description of the problem behavior(s), possible reasons as to why the problem behavior(s) occur, and positive behavioral supports, services, and strategies to address the behavior(s).

When a student with a disability, or a student suspected of a disability, is suspended, there is a process to protected the student. The process is called a Manifestation Determination Review .
It determines whether a student’s disability directly caused the problem behavior that led to a student’s suspension. If your child has a disability and has been suspended, make sure you understand the ins and outs of the MDR.
